A River View

Today, on July 10, 2013, I went to the South Street Seaport. This is how I got there. The sea port is on the other side of the island of which my family lives on, so I had to take the train. First, we got on the six train and went to 86th street. Then we transferred to the five train, and went all the way to Fulton Street. I got off of the train, and saw that most of the buildings looked old. There was even a building with sails behind it!

Next, we walked to the Seaport. There were things that were like docks except, there were a lot of them above each other. There was also a mall. In the mall they had samples of very good products, restaurants, games, stores, and a food court. In the food court, we got crêpes. There were savory crêpes and sweet crêpes. For the savory crêpe, we got the “Vegetarian” crêpe. It is a crêpe with corn, peas, carrots, and mozzarella. For the sweet crêpe, we got the “Berry Forest”. It has strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. I liked the sweet crêpe because I thought the flavors fit together more.

Next, it was dinner time. We went to a seafood place called “Luke’s Lobster”. We ordered a “Noah’s Ark”. It has a lobster roll, a crab roll, and a shrimp roll. I do not like seafood so, I did not eat. My mother said the crab was bland. Everyone loved the lobster. After eating, I went home.

A Day in the Past

On Friday, July 12, 2013, I went to the Bronx Zoo. They have a new dinosaur exhibit. I went through it. They have robot dinosaurs that are very realistic. It was impressive. The dilophosaurus baby sprayed water just like they sprayed venom in Jurassic park.

At the end, there was a place where you could dig fossils. They were not real, though. There was also one real fossil. It was the only one that you could not touch. It was a foot fossil.

The sea lions were very nice to watch. One of them had a baby. They were trying to teach the baby how to swim, so the mother pushed it into the water. After a few minutes, the baby came out of the water.

I also saw the monkeys. There were small and big ones. There were ones with white faces. There was also a big gray one that would not move from its spot.

I also went into the Madagascar house and saw the hissing cockroaches. They were big and I thought they were gross. There were also lemurs. There were ring - tail lemurs and a lot more. I saw huge crocodiles. In the tank with them were fish. They had long snouts like spinosaurus so that the fish could not escape from their mouth.

Animals!

Today, on July 4, 2013, my family and I went to the Museum of Natural History. I went to the ocean exhibit, and saw the biggest blue whale and I also saw the colossal squid with the sperm whale. The sperm whale was eating the colossal squid. There was a space where there were divers that died in the ocean. They were wearing goggles, but not swim wear. The goggles made it look like their eyes were popping out.

There were sea otters and dolphins. The dolphins were set up to look like they were jumping. They were in a group. The sea otter was covered by something that looked like a pile of tree bark. The otter was just floating. It was alone.

If I had to be an animal, I would choose to be a whale because then, I could protect myself from squids. I could protect myself because sperm whales eat giant/colossal squids. Also, because whales migrate so that during the winter, they do not freeze. Another reason is because whales have a special call for everything. Their call sounds like a ghost that is haunting a house, but high pitch. It is like their language. Finally, I would rather be a whale because they are a lot like human beings. Whales are mammals, they feed off of their mother’s milk, and they even have tiny hairs all over their body! That is why I would like to be a whale.

Peanut Butter & Company

During summer vacation, my family and I are doing something called five weeks five boroughs. During five weeks five boroughs, we go visit all five boroughs in New York City, and we visit each borough for one week.

Today, on July 3, 2013, my family went downtown in Manhattan to Sullivan Street to go to a peanut butter and jelly place called “Peanut Butter & Co.” But, they don’t only sell peanut butter and jelly! They sell weird combinations such as peanut butter, maple syrup, and bacon in one sandwich. My brother had this sandwich. My mother had peanut butter, banana, and bacon. I had bacon, lettuce, tomato, and peanut butter. My father had peanut butter and nutella. Finally, my sister had peanut butter and dill pickles.

“Peanut Butter & Co.” also sells weird peanut butters. They make it from scratch in the store. The store not only sells regular smooth and crunchy peanut butter, it sells dark chocolate dreams, a creamy chocolate mixed with chocolate. A second one is Marshmallow Fluff, a product that tastes like whipped marshmallows. They make a sandwich called a fluffernutter out of this. Come on down and check it out!
